Artist Statement

I primarily paint in oil, and enjoy a painterly effect in my work. My subjects vary from painting to painting. If something I see captures my attention, I will photograph it and decide if I will use it in a painting(unless I’m painting plein air). I always look for a point of interest, something to draw the viewer in. Keeping my colors clean makes them vibrant, rich, and harmonious.

For example, in my painting “Waiting for Uber”  how the dull background colors contrast with saturated lights reflecting on the ground. There is also good contrast between the light and dark values in the painting

Good drawing and the ability to capture and keep the viewers action is important to me. Confident brushstrokes, sharp edges, contrast, and correct temperatures I feel are the strong points in my paintings.
